No-exam life insurance

Who qualifies for accelerated underwriting, how it works, and what is different if you do not.

Many carriers now provide accelerated underwriting: for applicants within certain age and amount thresholds, they make a decision using the application, prescription records, driving history and other data rather than conducting an exam. Frequently you get a decision within a single day. Each quote on this site identifies whether an exam is required, possibly required, or not required for that product.

What it changes

Skipping the exam does not bypass underwriting. Your statements are confirmed, and a policy written based on false information can be rescinded within the first two years. If the carrier encounters concerns from its data, it might still order an exam or tests; you can choose to continue or stop.

Who tends to qualify

Usually applicants under roughly 60 requesting amounts up to the carrier's accelerated limit, with no serious health complications and no tobacco use in the last year or more. If you have had a recent doctor visit with blood work, certain carriers will accept those results instead of an exam.

If an exam is necessary, it is typically a 20- to 30-minute visit from a paramedical examiner at your workplace or residence in the Inglewood area, at no charge. For healthy applicants, exam results frequently improve a rate class, so an exam is not always unwelcome.
